How do I get to Las Vegas?
Again no direct flights from South Africa but there are plenty of connecting airports including Paris, Amsterdam, Heathrow, JFK and Atlanta. Just choose the one that’s cheapest or most convenient for you. Take the Las Vegas Freeway; Route 15, north into downtown and you’ll be there in minutes.

What About Getting around Las Vegas?
Route 15 cuts the city in two north/south whilst the 215 and 515 make up a ring road around it. The city is quite compact so driving it is easy.

Getting out of Vegas
See one of the world’s most incredible building projects at the Hoover Dam outside nearby Boulder City. Just over an hour away is beautiful but shrinking Lake Mead with its numerous hot springs and beyond the Hoover Dam you can continue on to the Grand Canyon, a drive of four hours in total.

Where Should I Stay in Vegas?
The Bellagio on the strip features Cirque du Soleil’s O show and has an amazing fountain display. It’ll cost you around R1400 a night. If you’re short on cash, there’s a Travelodge on the strip for only R540 a night and still a great little place to stay.

Not to be Missed in Las Vegas

• Gambling. Set yourself a limit -  say $10 and have a little fun. You’ve just got to now you’re here.
• Drive ‘The Strip’ at night. See the neon signs that epitomise Las Vegas and the fabulous hotel frontages from the comfort of your car.
• Enjoy a dinner and show. Many venues are now combining dinner and a show into one spectacular night’s entertainment. They’re great fun and good value too.
• BODIES. A rather gruesome exhibition of preserved human remains showing the way out bodies work, or don’t work, depending on the conditions. You’ll either love it or feel nauseous.
