Getting to Malaga
With no direct flights from South Africa, it’s handy that the city has many holiday flights from European hub airports. You can reach it from almost every major European country so take your pick from London, Paris, Frankfurt or Amsterdam. The airport is close by, southwest of the city centre, and by travelling along the MA-21 and MA-22 you’ll soon be in the centre.

Around the City
The MA-20 and the E-15 form a ring road around the city whilst the MA-22 runs along the coast. Off these roads, the city’s streets form a grid pattern making navigation simple.

Out and About
Malaga has excellent connections by motorway with many of the cities and resorts along the Costa del Sol making it a great base for exploring the region.

Where Should I Stay in Malaga?
The Salles Hotel in the centre of Malaga is a good location for exploring the sights. It’s reasonably priced too at only R750 a night. For something with a bit more class, try the Tryp Malaga Guadalmar with its five star all-inclusive luxury but still at a very reasonable R1500 a night.

In Malaga I Must see…

• The Alcazabar which is the huge Moorish castle dating from the 11th century. Even if you aren’t a fan of history, the views are spectacular from the castle.
• The Roman Theatre is a set of ancient ruins just below the Alcazabar and in very good restored condition. There are often theatrical or musical events held there.
• More history can be found in the Castillo de Gibralfaro just behind the Alcazabar. It has an even better view but is more remote so a car journey will be essential.
• The city was the birthplace and home of Picasso and a number of museums and galleries exhibit his work and artefacts from his life.
