Getting to Barcelona
No direct flights land at Barcelona from South Africa so choose the option that suits you best from London, Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam and connect there for the city. The airport is on the coast southwest of the city and easily traversed by the Ronda Litoral road.

Around the City
The inner city is laid out on a grid pattern and as such is easy to navigate. A motorway, the B20 bypasses the city giving quick in and out access to different neighbourhoods.

Out of Barcelona
See the Pyrenees Mountains to the west, around ninety minutes away. You can visit the Salvador Dali museum in Figueres or go to the monastery in Montserrat and see the Black Madonna.

What Shouldn’t I Miss in Barcelona?

• The Sagrada Familia is the icon of the city and a huge cathedral and monument to its designer, Gaudi. Although the cathedral still isn’t complete, a hundred years after its inception, it is staggeringly beautiful though.
• Barcelona has been recognised as one of the world’s top city beach destinations and the miles of golden sand around the city bear testament to it. If you get hot or tired of the city, cool off in the sea nearby.
• CosmoCaixa is a wonderful hands on science museum for kids. They’ll love a couple of hours there and adults won’t be bored either.
• Walk Las Ramblas, the city’s longest and most interesting street. It has loads of shops and plenty of cafes. For cheaper prices and better quality, visit the side streets too.
