How do I get to Sydney?
Qantas fly daily direct from Johannesburg meaning it’s easy to get to the east coast of Australia from South Africa. The city is really easy to reach from the airport which is located in the suburb of Arncliffe. Just follow Southern Cross Drive north into the centre.

Getting Around the City
The M1 is the main coastal motorway bisecting Sydney and off this you’ll find several smaller motorways and two lane highways. The M7 forms a loose circular road with many smaller roads heading in towards the harbour.

Getting out of Sydney
The Hunter Valley with its wineries is not far from Sydney whilst west of the city you can head up into the beautiful Blue Mountains for hiking or skiing.

We love the view of the harbour from the exclusive Shangri-La but it will set you back around R3800 a night. Much cheaper are the serviced apartments or aparthotels dotted around the city which can be obtained for only R800 a night.

What is There to See in Sydney

• The Opera House. An icon of the city, if you can get tickets to a performance there, it’ll be the highlight of your stay and a once in a lifetime experience.
• Harbour Bridge. Another instantly recognisable landmark, the Harbour Bridge can be walked or driven across for fabulous views of the beautiful harbour.
• Bondi Beach. This is a surfers’ paradise and with golden sand and blue seas, the place to be seen around Sydney. Swimmers need to be aware that the waves can be dangerous.
• The Rocks. This is one of the oldest parts of Sydney from around the time of the founding of the penal colony. It’s charming and photogenic, perfect for an afternoon stroll or an evening drink.
