How do I get to Miami?
You’ll have to get a connecting flight for there are no direct flights from Africa. From South Africa consider a stopover in London, New York, Washington or Atlanta before moving on to Miami. Once there, take the Dolphin Expressway to the centre then the Julia Tuttle Causeway to Miami Beach.

Getting Around Miami
Squeezed by the ocean and the Everglades, Miami is long and narrow with Route 95 forming its backbone, almost all routes come off this one so getting around is quite simple.

Getting out of Miami
You have two choices; route 95 takes you up the east coast of Florida whilst route 75 takes you west and north. Heading south you’ll reach the beautiful Keys.

Where to Stay in Miami
For sheer luxury, try the Ritz-Carlton at around R3800 a night whilst the comfortable Shalimar Motel is a snip at only R750 a night.

What Should I see in Miami?

• The Everglades. This is Miami’s famous ecological attraction; thousands of square miles of swampland filled with turtles and alligators. Take a guided tour for the best experience.
• Miami Beach. A separate entity to Miami, it’s where you’ll find the miles of pure white sand and plenty of entertainment.
• Deep Sea Fishing. Not for everyone but if you want to pit your wits and strength against some of the monsters of the deep, go out on a fishing cruise and reel in tuna, marlin and more.
• Art Deco Miami. Downtown Miami was constructed in the early 1900s and is a huge exhibition of art deco styles from the era. Tour during the day and night for different experiences and don’t forget your camera.
