Getting to Seville
The only way to get here from South Africa is to fly to either London, Paris or Amsterdam and get a connecting flight from there. The airport is east of the city but the A4 motorway leads directly into the centre, a journey of around ten minutes.

Travelling Around Seville
The E-5 and the SE-30 form a circular road called the Ronda which encompasses most of the city. Within this, Seville is set out as a loose grid which is easy to navigate.

Out of Seville
Seville’s position on a good motorway network means that other great destinations such as Cordoba, Granada and Cadiz are all within a couple of hours’ drive.

Hotels in Seville
We like the very exclusive Corral Del Rey, set in a restored 17th century building in the old town. An easy-going luxury exudes from the hotel but expect to pay around R2700 a night for the privilege. A lot cheaper but still very acceptable are the Apartamentos Murilla in the Santa Cruz neighbourhood where a night costs only R820.

What Shouldn’t I Miss in Seville?

• The cathedral is, by some measures, the largest church building in the world and it is absolutely huge. With seating capacity the equivalent of a good-sized football ground, the acoustics are also fabulous.
• Spend a day at the Real Alcazar, a stunning palace built in Moorish style but not by the Moors. Check out the Columbus Room where his historic journey was planned.
• Take a walk through the city’s Jewish quarter, one of the oldest and most atmospheric parts of the city.
• The Lebrija Palace is also a great place to spend a few hours. The floors are tiled with Roman mosaics and it’s said to be one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe.
