Getting to Majorca
As a popular holiday destination, you’ll find plenty of cheap budget flights from many of Europe’s hub airports. Choose yours based on price and convenience to get to Majorca as there are no direct flights. The airport is southeast of Palma on the Ma-19 motorway making access to all parts of the island very easy.
Getting Around Majorca
The Ma-13, Ma-19 and Ma-1 form a ‘V’ shape out from Palma making access to most parts of the island easy. Off the motorway you’ll find smaller but quiet roads leading to all the main towns and villages. To the north and west the roads can be steep and winding through the mountains.
Days Out
Valldemossa is a pretty village in the mountains much loved by Chopin and George Sand.
Sineu is right in the centre of the island and is famous for its huge weekly market.
Golfers should head to Cala Moraia where some of the best but least crowded courses can be found.
Places to Stay
If money is no object, the Hotel Calatrava in Palma is an exclusive boutique accommodation which costs R3000 a night but is pure heaven. The four star Almudaina is only R1000 a night but is still, modern, clean and in a great location.
Not to be Missed on Majorca
- Deia is a traditional village, high up in the mountains. It’s a complete contrast to the coast and well worth seeing for that reason alone.
- The capital Palma is a beautiful city once you get into the historic centre. The cathedral offers a peaceful sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle.
- Alcudia is one of the quieter and prettier resorts in the north. If you want to avoid the party crowd, perhaps if travelling with family, this is the ideal and very beautiful alternative.
- Soller must be on everyone’s list. It’s a beautiful citrus growing village set in a bowl shape valley. Despite its popularity, it’s still mostly traditional.
