Getting to Lanzarote
As one of Europe’s favourite holiday destinations you’ll find plenty of flights from many European countries. Choose a tour operator flight or one from a budget operator and you’ll get there cheaply from almost all the European airports flown to from South Africa with the exception of Paris. The airport is west of the town of Arrecife and on the LZ-2 highway. Puerto del Carmen is west of it.

Getting Around Lanzarote
Routes LZ-1 and LZ-2 jointly run the length of the island with smaller roads spurring off. Traffic is generally light and well-behaved!

Out and About
Take a whale and dolphin watching trip from one of the ports and see the magnificent creatures at home in the inky waters. Another boat trip can take you to the smallest Canary island of Montana Clara where time has most definitely stood still.

What Shouldn’t I Miss on Lanzarote

• Head for the Timanfaya National Park to see the steaming vents of this volcanic region. Stick to the paths though for the rock temperature can be several hundred degrees in places.
• Windsurf off one of Lanzarote’s beaches. The island has a constant breeze; great for cooling off and also for windsurfing. The west and north coasts are best but beginners may want the gentler breezes of the east and south.
• If you’re going to do a whale watching trip, visit the museum dedicated to them beforehand. You’ll find out all about those that live in the seas of the Canaries and be well informed before you set out.
• Take some time to see the Agricola Museum. This could be thought of as a little dull but if you’re interested in traditional life on the island, this will help you discover all about it.
