Mthatha Airport is a relatively small airport located on the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. In 2013, following the death of Nelson Mandela it was placed under military control to allow the heads of state to fly there in order to attend the funeral of Nelson Mandela which was held in the nearby village of Qunu, where he grew up.



The airport is undergoing staged improvements and upgrades and currently offers flights to the destinations of Johannesburg and O.R Tambo. Flights are available with South African Airways.
