How do I get to Linate Airport?
The airport takes mainly domestic flights and short haul international ones so no chance of a flight there from South Africa. The usual European hubs have connections there so consider London, Paris or Amsterdam, depending on cost and schedules. The Viale Corsica takes you from the airport road straight into central Milan.

Getting Away From Linate Airport
Use the A50 and A51 motorway ring road to access the motorways that get you away from Milan. The E64 running east/west and the A1 north are the main arterial roads.

What is the Airport Like?
Being less of an international airport, it can get crowded with domestic passengers and you’ll find that renovations and expansion hasn’t quite kept up with usage so it looks a little jaded. Facilities are reasonable though, if a little dull. There’s a selection of shops including a few fashion outlets, a travel shop and a duty free outlet. Food is simple but filling at the airport including much Italian fare and some international fast food. Car hire desks, currency exchange and a medical room complete the offering.

Staying Near Linate Airport
The nearest hotel is but two minutes away and called the Air Hotel Milano. Rooms cost R650 a night but it’s an overnighting hotel, not one to stay at for long! The Starhotels Business Palace is much more acceptable and at R750, not much more to pay for a touch of class.

Where can I get to From Linate Airport?

• Apart from the centre of Milan itself you have within easy reach…
• Gorgonzola where the smelly cheese is made. You can visit the factory and taste the various stages of its production.
• The enchanting medieval city of Bergamo with its beautiful architecture and nestled in the foothills of the Italian Alps.
• Brescia, a little further away and famous for the production of Beretta handguns; favoured by spies for decades. Tour the factory and see the exhibition of the gun’s history.
• Lake Como, the romantic lake is an hour north of the airport and great for cruises or just wonderful relaxation.
