How do I get to Cologne?
Once more, it’ll only be by flying into one of the key European hub airports; London, Paris or Amsterdam and connecting there although an alternative is to fly direct to Frankfurt and hire a car there for the two hour journey to Cologne. From the airport, join autobahn 59 then 559 which will take you directly into the centre of Cologne.

Getting Around the City
Autobahns 1, 4 and 59 form an outer circular road from which many smaller motorways head into the centre. Routes 9 and 55 form an inner ring road, roughly around the line of the old city walls. This concentric circle layout makes navigating Cologne very easy.

Getting Out of Cologne
The former capital of Germany; Bonn, is less than an hour south of Cologne. In Bruhl, a suburb of the city, you’ll find the Phantasialand theme park and the stunning Augustusburg Palace, home of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne.

Staying in Cologne

What Should I do in Cologne?

• Visit the Kolner Dom. This is the city’s cathedral and is very imposing. Seen on the skyline from many parts of the city, you can ascend the south tower via 509 steps to look down on Cologne.
• Shopping in Agnesviertel. Forget the chain stores and department stores. Agnesviertel has dozens of boutiques, gift shops, cafes and more.
• Put a lock on the Hohenzollern Bridge. Lovers have for decades added padlocks, often engraved, to the ironwork of this bridge and if you’re only there on business, it’s a sweet reminder of how love makes the world go round.
• Visit the Schokoladenmuseum. It’s a museum dedicated to chocolate and you can sample many of the exhibits!
