Getting to Lyon
You won’t be able to fly directly to Lyon from South Africa but all of the European hub airports accessed via Johannesburg have flights to Lyon. The quickest and most convenient is likely to be Zurich although it depends on your plans. The airport is inside the outer ring road, east of the city. Follow it south until you reach the A43 the head along this into the centre.

Getting Around Lyon
The city is on many different levels and in places it’s probably worth parking then taking the funicular up to the higher parts of the city.

Out of Lyon
Annecy, likened to Venice because of its canals, is under two hours away and a great day out from the city. Perouges is under half an hour away and is a beautiful old village popular with the Lyonnais.

Staying in Lyon

You Mustn’t Miss…

• Lyon at Night. It’s one of the best illuminated cities in the world at night and a journey around it is magical. Take your camera.
• The Fourviere Basilica. This is a beautiful and massive religious building that is equally famed for the fabulous views out over the city
• The Renaissance Courtyards. Dating back over half a millennium, these beautiful and ornate courtyards are often hidden away. One of the best is in the Maison du Charmarier off the Rue St Jean.
• Croix Rousse. This is the really old part of the city and includes the Roman amphitheatre. There are also many examples of the developing architecture of the city over the centuries including the houses of the silk workers.
