Brazil is the largest country in both the regions of South and Latin America. Brazil’s magnificent coastline borders all other South American Countries except for Ecuador and Chile. Brazil is a country of diversity, with tropical wildlife, the Amazon River and a variety of ecological systems. It is a land ripe for exploration.

Brazil Mini Guide

How do I get to Brazil?
It is possible to fly from a number of South African cities, with direct flights available from Johannesburg. Many connecting flights are available from the areas of Cape town, Bloemfontein and Durban to name a few. South African airways are your best option for direct flights but also check out airlines such as Qatar airlines, Emirates and KLM, for indirect flight options.

Travelling Around Brazil
Brazil is a vast country and it is possible to see plenty of it from the luxury of your rental car. However do exercise caution when driving on the roads and standards can be different from what you are used to. Having said that the road quality is generally good, with cities being fairly well signposted. A rental car in Brazil can be collected direct from the airport or collected from all major cities.

Eating out in Brazil
Brazil is home to a delectable range of food and drink; the food is as diverse as the country itself with a range of different cultural experiences to sample. Be sure to try the national dish of feijoada (a stew made from pork and black beans). You are as likely to come across this dish in a top restaurant as you are in a street stall. Seafood is also in abundance through out Brazil’s coastal regions, particularly those in the north-east. Brazil is well known for its excellent hospitality and with reasonable restaurant prices, eating out in Brazil is not to be missed.

Staying in Brazil
The accommodation options in Brazil are nearly as varied as the country itself, and there is sure to be something for every budget. These range from hostels and guesthouses to hotels and bungalows. For history and culture the Rio de Janero State is ideal, with the best museums and restaurants arguably found in the city of Rio Janeiro it self. For glorious beaches and coastline try the Ceara region.

What Shouldn’t I Miss in Brazil?

  • Experience a Brazilian festival, these can be found throughout Brazil and show off the country’s diversity at its best. Try Ouro Preto’s Semana Santa or Bumba Meu Boi in the north.
  • For a taste of old Brazil try the Blumenau’s beer and schnitzel Oktoberfest. This is the largest of its kind outside of Germany.
  • Why not try one of Rio’s atmospheric samba clubs and dance the night away?
  • Drive around the city of Salvador in your rental car and take in the pure beauty that many cities cannot match.
  • The island retreat of IIha Grande is a paradise of Atlantic rainforest and beautiful tropical beaches.
