How do I get to Hobart?
Three airlines fly from Sydney to Hobart but you’ll need to get to Sydney first from Johannesburg but it’s a good excuse for a few days in the capital of New South Wales. The A3 Tasman Highway leads directly from the airport west into the city.

Getting Around the City
Hobart is a small and compact capital compared to others and built either side of the River Derwent. It’s easy to get around by car and with plenty of natural and man-made landmarks it’s hard to get lost.

Getting out of Hobart
To experience wild Tasmania, take the A9 across Norfolk Bay to the Tasman National Park where you’ll find mountains, waterfalls and dense forest. For yet more history, visit the small towns of Ross and Richmond which date back to the times of the penal colonies.

Staying in Hobart

• Salamanca Market. This is a popular shopping destination on a Sunday morning for locals and tourists. You can find just about anything there and relax in the many cafes once you’ve had enough shopping.
• Battery Point. For the historical side of Hobart, head out to Battery Point where the sandstone buildings are  a reminder of the times of the penal colonies.
• Cadbury’s.  Far from home you can tour the southern hemisphere’s Cadbury factory and try some of the delicious chocolate. You’ll find out all about how it is made and the history of the company in Australia.
• Cascade Brewery. The oldest brewery in Australia and still going strong, you can tour the operation and try some of the golden ale produced there.
